폴 에르되시는 다음과 같이 신이 아름다운 증명들을 그 책에 기록해놨다고 얘기했다.
Paul Erdős liked to talk about The Book, in which God maintains the perfect proofs for mathematical theorems, following the dictumof G. H. Hardy that there is no permanent place for ugly mathematics. Erdős also said that you need not believe in God but, as a mathematician, you should believe in The Book.(1)
